This was the first big experiment in using Corel's Painter app. I'm quite impressed with the quality of it's brushes and I think it's a beautiful application.
In late 2003/early 2004, I painted a series of abstract paintings of the human form. This was the first of four.
It was sold at a charity auction.

These are photos I took of a beautiful French Gothic 13th century revival Catholic church built in 1876 in Guelph, Ontario. I plan on getting some shots of the interior, but the day I took these, the Church was holding a wedding.
I had to catch a photograph of this sign. It's from a bar called "The Albion Hotel" and I found it incredibly cool. Don't ask me why, but I just like it. :)
My parents bred Newfoundlands, which happen to be one of the sweetest breeds of dog you will ever find. Tippy was a family pet through my youth. My mother wanted a sketch done for memory's sake.
This is a painting I did when I was about 17. The eagle came from a photo on the cover of a nature magazine lying around the house. The background was done from scratch. I would redo everything but the eagle if I could.
I was so intersted in becoming a comic book artist, that I created many characters on my own. This is one of them. He never had a name, but the comic was to be called "Fear". The premise was that there was this "spirit" that would pass on from one person to the next at the point of their death. The lead character "Alex" was a paramedic on the scene of the death of a rather prominent superhero and the spirit entered him, forcing him to become the next in a long line of less-than-voluntary heroes.
I was once in talks with a Canadian comic book company called "Anthem Comics" to work on a comic of theirs by the name of "Bruiser". It didn't work out, but this is one of the original pics I did of the main character. Drawn in 1994 and coloured in 2003.
I'm a huge fan of the Hellboy comics, and thought the movie was great. I did this pic around 1993 or 1994. It was drawn on illustration board and coloured using watered down acrylic paints as I hate using coloured inks.
All throughout my teens, I wanted to be a comic book artist. I drew and drew, and perfected my work. I entered contests like mad at the local comic book stores. This piece was entered as a "future cover" entry. It was my speculation as to what the final cover of a 12-part miniseries would look like. The #12 cover looked nothing like what I had done, but I won the contest with first place anyhow. It was an art contest, not a speculation contest.
